Biography

Christine Odette Asaba is a Chartered Certified Accountant and senior finance and governance executive with 30 years of professional experience across central banking, financial control, accounting, budgeting, risk oversight, internal controls and institutional leadership. [[PARAGRAPH]] She began her career at the National Bank of Rwanda in 1996 and served there for approximately 12 years. Her responsibilities included budget preparation and review, expenditure verification, procurement, inventory control, interbank clearing operations and the reconciliation of international correspondent-bank accounts. This experience established a strong foundation in banking operations, financial discipline, regulated processes and institutional controls. [[PARAGRAPH]] Christine subsequently held senior accounting, management-accounting and credit-control responsibilities at King Faisal Hospital. Her work included preparing financial and management accounts, maintaining accounting records, managing debtors and overseeing debt-recovery processes to support financial performance and informed management decision-making. [[PARAGRAPH]] As Financial Controller of Akagera Management Company, the public-private partnership responsible for managing Akagera National Park, she oversaw financial control, reporting, accounting systems, business planning, budgeting, asset management, taxation, cash-flow management and external-audit coordination. She also acted as Company Secretary, coordinating Board meetings and maintaining formal Board records, giving her direct experience in corporate governance and Board administration. [[PARAGRAPH]] She later served as Chief Accountant and Finance and Administration Manager at Doyelcy Ltd, with responsibility for financial reporting, internal controls, budgeting, bank-account oversight, commercial analysis, staff performance and coordination with external auditors. [[PARAGRAPH]] Her subsequent appointments have included Chief Financial Officer and senior managing director responsibilities across transport, tourism, hospitality and environmentally focused enterprises. These roles have broadened her experience across strategic planning, operational management, business development, stakeholder engagement, sustainability and team leadership. [[PARAGRAPH]] Across her senior finance roles, Christine has managed annual operating budgets exceeding US$26 million, coordinated external audits and led multidisciplinary teams of up to 65 employees. Her wider expertise includes financial reporting, forecasting, cash-flow management, taxation, financial risk management, fraud prevention, procurement, bank reconciliation and the development of effective organisational systems and controls. [[PARAGRAPH]] Christine is a Chartered Certified Accountant and holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Leicester, with a focus on International Finance. Her professional experience is complemented by familiarity with financial, banking and management-information systems including Sage Pastel, QuickBooks, Oracle and integrated banking platforms. She works in English, French and Swahili. [[PARAGRAPH]] As a member of the Board of ATIB, Christine contributes extensive experience in financial oversight, banking operations, internal controls, risk management, audit, executive leadership and institutional governance. Her perspective supports the Board’s responsibilities for financial discipline, accountability, risk oversight and the sustainable development of the Bank.
